Incident Lake vs Rootly (October 2026)
This comparison reflects each vendor’s public information as of October 26, 2026. If something is wrong or out of date, please tell us.
Rootly is a modern incident platform with three building blocks, Incident Response, On-Call and an AI SRE, priced per user and designed to be bought piece by piece.
Incident Lake runs the live response too. Where it differs is the work on either side of it: drills and a CMDB so the team is ready, then deadline tracking and evidence so the incident closes out cleanly for auditors and regulators.
If incident data cannot leave your environment, Incident Lake ships as Self-Hosted with a self-hosted LLM. Rootly takes a different route with Edge Connectors, a lightweight agent in your infrastructure that connects out to Rootly.
Which one fits your team
Rootly is a good fit if…
- You want incident response and on-call from one vendor, priced per user
- An AI SRE that proposes root causes and drafts remediation PRs is a priority
- Your responders are spread across Slack, Teams and Google Chat
Incident Lake is a good fit if…
- Your gap is before the incident: regular drills and a map of what depends on what
- You need GDPR deadlines tracked and evidence an auditor can follow
- Incident data and the LLM have to stay inside your environment

How teams run both
Keep Rootly where it is strong. Add Incident Lake for the readiness and compliance work around each incident.

Checklist: moving from, or running alongside, Rootly
- On-call: Rootly On-Call can be bought on its own, and we suggest keeping it. Incident Lake is not built to be your pager
- Live response: decide which tool opens the channel or thread so responders are never working in two places
- Service data: load components into the CMDB, or sync from NetBox or ServiceNow
- Past retrospectives: export what you need and import it as knowledge for similar-incident search
- Deadline clocks: deadlines are calculated from the time of awareness, so agree how your team records that moment
FAQ
Do we have to replace Rootly?
No. A common setup keeps Rootly for paging and adds Incident Lake for drills, the CMDB, deadline tracking and evidence.
Will the AI set severity or close incidents on its own?
No. The agent proposes and the people in the thread decide. Reports are never submitted without a person sending them.
How is Self-Hosted different from Rootly’s Edge Connectors?
According to Rootly’s docs, Edge Connectors are a lightweight agent in your infrastructure that connects outbound to Rootly. Incident Lake Self-Hosted runs the application itself, together with a self-hosted LLM, inside your environment.
